Happenstance Review: Can AI Turn Your Existing Network Into a Better Sales Tool?

Happenstance Review: Can AI Turn Your Existing Network Into a Better Sales Tool?
4:11

Most businesses know more people than they think they do. The challenge is finding the right connection when it actually matters.

Happenstance is an AI-powered network search tool that helps you discover who in your existing network could provide a route into a target company or person. We tested it from a B2B sales and HubSpot perspective and found it particularly interesting for account research, event prospecting and finding opportunities for warm introductions.

The biggest limitation for HubSpot users? There is currently no native HubSpot integration.

What is Happenstance?

Happenstance describes itself as an AI search engine for your network.
The idea is simple.
LinkedIn gives you one view of your professional network. Email and calendars contain another. Then there are relationships held by colleagues, directors, advisers and investors—many of which never make it into the CRM. This becomes a problem when a salesperson is trying to reach someone specific.

Ask:
“Does anyone know the CEO of this company?
The usual process is fairly manual. Search LinkedIn. Search the CRM. Ask colleagues. Send a message on Slack or Teams. Then hope somebody remembers a useful connection.
Happenstance is designed to make that process easier.
You can connect sources such as LinkedIn, Gmail, Calendar, Contacts and Outlook and then search your network using natural language.

Instead of building complicated filters, you simply describe the type of person you're trying to find.

How did we test Happenstance?

We started with fairly conventional searches, such as finding CEOs of particular types of companies.

Then we made the requests more specific by combining criteria such as location, education and industry. One of our tests asked Happenstance to find people in Tokyo who had a connection to a Scottish university and an interest in fintech. Happenstance was able to interpret the request and identify relevant people within the available network.

This is where the platform started to become much more interesting. Rather than deciding which database to search or which fields to filter, you describe the person you have in mind and let Happenstance research your network.

It feels more like AI-powered relationship research than conventional contact searching.

How can Happenstance help sales teams?

There are already plenty of sales prospecting tools that can find names, job titles and companies.

We don't think that's the main reason to use Happenstance. Its more interesting use case is helping salespeople answer:
“Who do we already know who could help us get into this account?”
Imagine your sales team identifies a company it wants to work with. Happenstance can help establish whether somebody elsewhere in your organisation—or within your wider trusted network—already knows a relevant decision-maker.

Depending on how you configure the network, those relationships could come from:

  • colleagues
  • founders
  • directors
  • advisers
  • investors
  • other trusted contacts

These connections are particularly valuable because they're easy to miss. Many exist outside your CRM.

Finding one can completely change your sales approach. Instead of automatically adding another prospect to a cold outreach sequence, you can ask someone you already know:
“Could you introduce me?”

That's potentially a much stronger starting point for a sales conversation.

What are the best sales use cases for Happenstance?

From our testing, we see several useful applications.

Target account research
Start with a target company and identify whether your wider network has relationships with relevant decision-makers.

Warm introductions
Find a trusted connection who could potentially introduce your salesperson rather than starting with cold outreach.

Event prospecting
If you're attending a conference with hundreds of delegates, don't just ask:

“Who should I meet?”
Ask:
“Who do I already know who can introduce me to someone attending?”
For us, this is one of the simplest and most practical use cases.

Entering a new market
When expanding into another country or sector, Happenstance could help identify existing relationships that provide a starting point.

Re-engaging former customers
Your wider network may reveal relationships that help restart conversations with companies you've previously worked with.

Pipeline research
For strategic opportunities already sitting in your CRM, you can check whether anyone in your wider network has a relationship that could help move the opportunity forward.

Does Happenstance integrate with HubSpot?

Happenstance does not currently offer a native HubSpot integration.
For us, this is its biggest limitation for HubSpot sales teams.
Happenstance does provide integrations with AI tools including ChatGPT and Claude, as well as API, MCP and CLI options for businesses that want to create their own workflows.
For more technical organisations, that creates opportunities to connect the systems.

For the average HubSpot customer, however, a native integration would make Happenstance considerably easier to incorporate into everyday sales activity.
We would like to see that added.

How should Happenstance work alongside HubSpot?

We would keep the roles of the two platforms quite separate.
Happenstance helps you discover relationships. HubSpot helps you manage them.

A practical workflow could look like this:
1. Identify target accounts in HubSpot
Your sales team builds or reviews a list of companies it wants to approach.

2. Research those accounts in Happenstance
Search your wider network for relevant decision-makers and existing relationships.

3. Find opportunities for warm introductions
Identify colleagues, directors, advisers or other contacts who may be able to introduce you.

4. Start the conversation
Use the relationship to create a warmer route into the target account.

5. Manage the opportunity in HubSpot
Once a conversation begins, HubSpot remains the place to manage contacts, companies, activities, deals and the ongoing customer relationship.

Happenstance vs HubSpot

Happenstance HubSpot
Main purpose Network intelligence CRM and customer platform
Find hidden relationships Strong Limited to data captured in CRM
Find warm routes into accounts Strong Limited
Manage contacts and companies Not its primary purpose Yes
Manage sales pipeline No Yes
Sales activity management Limited Yes
Customer relationship management No Yes
Native integration between platforms Not currently

We therefore wouldn't look at Happenstance as an alternative to HubSpot. It potentially fills a gap before the traditional CRM process begins.

Happenstance pros and cons

What we liked

  • Natural-language network searching

  • Can uncover relationships that never reached the CRM

  • Strong potential for warm introductions

  • Interesting application for account-based selling

  • Particularly useful for event prospecting

  • Free plan makes it easy to experiment with

What could be better

  • No native HubSpot integration

  • Searches can take some time

  • Its value depends heavily on the quality and size of your existing network

  • Teams may need to think carefully about which network sources they connect

How much does Happenstance cost?

At the time of our review in August 2026, Happenstance offers a free plan covering the core product.

Its Pro plan is listed at $24 per month when billed annually, with team pricing listed at $24 per seat per month.

The free plan makes it relatively easy to test whether Happenstance can find useful relationships within your own network before committing to a paid plan.

Is Happenstance worth trying?

Yes—particularly if relationships and introductions play an important role in how your business wins new customers.

There are two important considerations.

First, searches can take some time. Happenstance is carrying out research across connected sources rather than simply filtering a fixed database, so results aren't always immediate.

Second, the platform is only as useful as the network available to it.

Someone with a large, established professional network is likely to get considerably more value from Happenstance than someone with a relatively small network.

Neither point would stop us from trying it.

Our verdict

We think Happenstance is most interesting for founders, consultants, business development teams and B2B sales organisations where personal introductions influence how new business is won.

For HubSpot users, we would treat it as an addition to the sales technology stack rather than another place to manage customer information.

HubSpot already does that job.

What Happenstance can potentially uncover is the information that never reached the CRM in the first place:

The colleague who worked with someone five years ago.

The director who knows a senior decision-maker at your target account.

The adviser who can make an introduction.

For sales teams, those can be some of the most valuable connections to discover.
